Biometric Verification FAQ

This article provides answers to frequently asked questions about operating your Smart Lock with the Biometric Verification feature.

What is Biometric Verification?

Biometric Verification is a new security feature that enables you to operate your smart lock remotely using your smart phone’s biometric verification such as facial recognition or a fingerprint.

What locks does this feature work with?

Biometric verification works with all Yale Assure Locks and Levers with Wi-Fi.

Do I need anything other than a Yale Assure Lock/Lever with Wi-Fi and my smart phone to set up Biometric Verification?

A Wi-Fi Bridge, such as Yale Connect or August Connect, is required to use Biometric Verification with Yale Assure Locks/Levers. The feature only works when you are operating your lock via Wi-Fi.

What phones are supported?

Biometric verification is supported by iPhone and Android. Information about phone compatibility is available in this article.

How do I set it up?

Secure Remote Access is a lock setting that appears for locks that can be remotely operated through either a wifi or a mobile data connection. A Wi-Fi Bridge is currently required to use the Biometric Verification feature.

To set up Biometric Verification, open the Yale Access App, or August App, and go to your Lock and select the Settings menu. Select “Security” and toggle the Secure Remote Access feature ON. The App will prompt you to authenticate. Follow the prompts to complete steps.

Is this feature secure?

Biometric Verification adds another layer of required authentication when operating your lock in the way used by other apps that demand the highest level of security, like banking apps.

If I set up Biometric Verification, will other Owners and Guests be able to use my lock?

Anyone with Owner access to the lock can update the Biometric Verification setting.

Can Guests use Biometric Verification too?

Biometric Verification only works for remote operations. If you want to allow a Guest to have access to this feature, you need to update their Access Level to Owner.

If I enable this feature, will it be enabled for other lock users?

If you enable the Biometric Verification feature in your settings, the feature will also be enabled for other Owners of the associated lock.

I enabled this feature, but now it is disabled. Why?

If you enabled the Biometric Verification setting, but it has been disabled, it is likely that another lock Owner disabled the feature in their settings.
