This article provides answers to some frequently asked questions about the Yale Access Upgrade Kit (formerly the Connect by August module).
Why have August and Yale partnered to create the Yale Access Upgrade Kit?
Yale and August are both owned by ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions. By sharing technology between groups we can offer consumers a better overall experience and speed up introduction of new products and features.
Can I use the Yale Access Upgrade Kit (Module) with my lock?
The Yale Access Upgrade Kit is only compatible with the Assure series. To tell if you have an Assure series lock you can check three things:
- Do you have a check and gear on your keypad?
- Is your privacy button to the side of your thumb turn?
- Does your lockset have a module slot when you remove the battery cover?
If the answer to all of these questions is “Yes” then your lock is compatible!
What comes in the Yale Access Upgrade Kit?
The kit comes with a Yale Access Module, the Yale Connect Wi-Fi bridge and DoorSense™.
What is the Yale Connect Wi-Fi bridge? Do I have to install/use it?
The Yale Connect enables the module to connect to the internet, which gives you the ability to control your lock from anywhere using the Yale Access App.
Remote features include the ability to check your door status, lock and unlock your door from anywhere, and grant access to others. In addition, installing the Yale Connect gives you access to existing integrations – including AirBnB, SimpliSafe and all three voice services (Google, Amazon Alexa, Siri).
What is DoorSense™?
DoorSense™ is a sensor that allows you to monitor door position (i.e. if the door is opened or closed).
I already have a Yale Smart Module in my Assure Lock - Can I still add the Yale Access Module?
No. The Yale Access module uses the same slot as your existing module. Your lock can only accommodate one module at a time.
What app do I download to use with the Yale Access Module?
Assure Locks work with the Yale Access App. This free app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store. Yale apps are not compatible.
Doesn't Yale already make a Bluetooth lock? Why is this different?
The Yale Access module allows a user access to a better Bluetooth experience. The Yale Access App and Yale Access Upgrade Kit add: Auto-Unlock, door position sensing (when DoorSense™ is installed) and remote access via the Yale Connect Wi-Fi bridge. Additionally the Yale Access App allows simplified access sharing and access to numerous integrations such as AirBnb, and all three voice services (Google, Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri).
Can I use the Yale Access Module on my current Yale Bluetooth Lock?
Yes! You can add the Yale Access Upgrade Kit to your Yale Assure Lock with Bluetooth. Please be aware that use of the Yale Access module will deactivate the current Yale Bluetooth.
What is the difference between iM1 and the Yale Access Module?
Both iM1 and the Yale Access module allow you to control your home with Apple HomeKit, but there are a few differences:
- The iM1 module only supports HomeKit and does not have support for virtual keys, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Airbnb, or DoorSense™. You manage the iM1 module using the Home app and the Yale Secure app – this is great for apple-oriented families and homes. PLEASE NOTE: It does not support Auto-Unlock on arrival.
- The Yale Access Upgrade Kit allows you to integrate your Yale lock with HomeKit and mange it though the Yale Access App – because the Yale Access App supports both iOS and Android it is a better app for a house with multiple technologies or phones.
- The Yale Access module also gives you additional features such as Auto-Unlock, Amazon Alexa and/or Google Assistant integration, DoorSense™, and much more.
