This article provides answers to frequently asked questions about the Yale Smart Cabinet Lock.

Where can I install my smart cabinet lock?

Your smart cabinet lock can be installed anywhere with a door or drawer that you wish to secure. Typical installations include kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and desk drawers.

When installing cabinet lock we recommend you install the cabinet lock as far away from the door hinges as possible.

Do I have to use the provided screws to install my cabinet lock?

No, the provided screws are not required to be used to install the cabinet lock. You may use them, if you want a more permanent installation of the cabinet lock. Note, when using the double sided tape only you must clean surface before application and allow up to 24 hours for proper bondage.

Is my cabinet/drawer compatible?

If you are only installing your cabinet lock with the provided 3M tape, then the thickness of the cabinet does not matter.

If you are looking for a more permanent install and are using the provided screws, you should measure the screw length against your cabinet thickness to ensure the screws will not drill through the cabinet.

How much pulling force can the cabinet lock withstand?

Smart Cabinet Lock can withstand up to 80 lbs of pulling force.

Why did I receive a second lock post?

In the event your first post breaks, we have included a second post for your convenience.

What is the longer post used for?

The longer post provided with the Smart Cabinet lock is used for cabinets that have a face frame or lip. This post can support face frames up to 1” tall and 1 ¼” deep. To install this post, place the post inside the hole in the smart cabinet lock. Place the smart cabinet lock behind the face frame and then close the cabinet door to adhere the post to the cabinet door.

Can I install my cabinet lock outside?

Our locks have been tested to operate in temperatures ranging from -22ºF to 140ºF. The cabinet lock must be completely enclosed to ensure the cabinet lock will not be exposed to weather elements.

What type of batteries does the cabinet lock use?

1 Lithium CR-2 battery.

How often do I need to change the batteries on my cabinet lock?

The cabinet lock batteries will last approximately 12 months with regular use. If the battery is low, a series of warning beeps will sound.

How do I change the batteries on my cabinet lock?

Remove the cabinet lock from the mounting bracket. Open the battery compartment door and remove the existing battery and then replace with a new battery. Once the new battery is installed, close the battery compartment door and re-mount.

What if my batteries die?

The cabinet lock will automatically unlock, if the batteries get to a certain level and are not changed. This feature can be turned off via the Yale Access App. In the event, you turn off this features and the batteries die, you will need to pull your cabinet door open until the post is released, by force, from the lock body. The cabinet lock was designed, to allow the post to break after a certain amount of force. In the event, your post breaks, we have included a second post, just in case!

Is my cabinet lock compatible with voice assistants?

Yes, as long as you have purchased the Yale Access Wi-Fi Connect Bridge, you can use your cabinet lock with all 3 voice assistants; Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa.

How many users can I share access with?

You can share access to your cabinet lock to an unlimited about of people.

How do I grant access to my lock?

From the Yale Access App follow these steps:

  1. Select either to invite the guest via their mobile number or from their saved contact from your phone.
  2. Enter their mobile number or select their contact and then their mobile number from those listed
  3. Confirm access level (Guest or Owner or None) and App Access (Always / Recurring / Temporary)
  4. Then send the invite
  5. The guest will be instructed to download the August App (if they haven't done so before) and then log in using the option: I RECEIVED AN INVITE (blue button)

What should I do if I am unable to invite guests with International numbers?

Verification codes expire 10 minutes after they are sent. If your guest is located outside the US and Canada and they do not receive a verification code or the code has stopped working due to expiration, contact Support Support@YaleLock.com.

How is the communication between the lock and the phone secured?

The Yale Access App and the Smart Cabinet lock use multiple levels of encryption technologies to ensure the security of Bluetooth.

What phones are compatible with the Smart Cabinet Lock?

The Smart Cabinet lock is compatible with Android phones with operating system 6.0+ or iPhone with operating system iOS11+.

What is the button on the top of the Cabinet Lock used for?

The button on the top of the cabinet lock glows in the dark and unlocks the cabinet lock. This can be used as an emergency escape, in case a small child locks themselves inside a cabinet.

I do not receive notifications from the Yale Access App, why not?

In order to receive notifications for your Smart Cabinet lock, you must have the Yale Access Wi-Fi bridge set up with your Yale Access App.

Why is my cabinet/drawer always locked when I close the cabinet/drawer?

The automatic relock feature is turned on by default. This means, every time you close your cabinet/drawer the cabinet/drawer is locked. You can turn this feature off from the Yale Access App. Note, if you turn this feature off, the only way to lock the cabinet lock will be from the Yale Access App.

Can I install the Smart Cabinet Lock on a double door cabinet?

Yes, you can install the smart on a double door cabinet by using the double door plate that is provided in the hardware kit. Simply, install the plate with the provided screws or double-sided tape on the door opposite of the smart cabinet lock. The double door plate, will hold the second door in place and locked when the smart cabinet lock is locked. Once you unlock the smart cabinet lock you will be able to open both cabinet doors.

I have a lip on the front of my cabinet and the post does not reach the cabinet lock body. Can I still use the smart cabinet lock on my cabinets?

Yes, we have provided a longer post in the Smart Cabinet lock hardware kit. Use this post for any cabinets with a lip or face frame. This post can support face frames up to 1” tall and 1 ¼” deep. To install this post, place the post inside the hole in the smart cabinet lock. Place the smart cabinet lock behind the face frame and then close the cabinet door to adhere the post to the cabinet door.
